November 7th 2007 - Push Push SIM Card Connectors

Major League Electronics introduces the new 2.10mm profile Push-Push SIM card socket for either GSM11.11 or the latest 3G USIM standard.

SIMS60 from MLE

This surface mount product has been designed for ultra reliable operation and to withstand the adverse effects of the IR reflow soldering process - known to cause problems with other manufacturer's Push-Push products.

Suitable for up to 5,000 mating cycles, the SIMS60 has a maximum insertion force of 20N and a retention force of 1.5N minimum.

Upgrading from the 6 pin version is easy, as the 8 pin contact version is fit, form and function compatible with the exception of the 2 extra contacts.

A metal shell to the top and sides provides RFI shielding, while 2 fitting nails ensure a secure fix to the PCB. In addition a pair of locating posts help to remove stress from the PCB solder joints and to facilitate placing the connector during production.

The mechanism provides a good, positive tactile feel when the SIM card is inserted and incorrect insertion of the card is apparent, since the card springs back.

Although the SIM format was originally designed for Cell Phone applications, the SIM card has found favor in other applications where data logging or parameter storage is required. Unlike Memory Cards which can be easily read and changed by users, the SIM card format offers a degree of security against unwanted access or tampering.

The Card Present Detect switch changes from closed to open upon correct card insertion.

Backed with the commitment to quality, service and price that you expect from MLE, the SIMS60 is Lead (Pb) Free and fully RoHS compliant.

September 03rd 2007 - New Website

Major League announces its new web site today!!!
“We’ve been polling our customers and listening to “how to makes things better and easier” says Gary England, Sales Engineer for MLE.“ The new web site features each series as a stand alone, for example when you want to look at a double row header you no longer get a data sheet that has all the other row options, it's now clearer and easier to read.“

Catering to new engineers and first time visitors MLE features thumb nail photos of each part so that you can see the part before you select it. For the ease of engineers they have a slick drop down menu that displays the series so that you can select the exact part that you’re looking for.

Teresa Mann, customer service associate for Major League Electronics, says “I can’t wait to receive feedback from our customers, we’ve been telling them for a few weeks now that the web site is almost ready. I know everyone has worked hard putting this together - it’s going to be much more customer friendly.

Customer friendly is right; you can now go to the product of choice and with a simple click select if you want a drawing, need to request samples or other technical data. It’s all there on one page.

“I think one of the best features on the web site is the news archive” says Doug Coffman, President of Major League Electronics. “This gives us the opportunity to show-case our products and provides an outlet to let the public know that we’re introducing new products all the time. With our manufacturing footprints in the US, Europe and China we’ve introduced 4 new product lines in just this last year. In the past we’ve been know as a Samtec alternative, what we’ve been working on is getting engineers and buyers to realize that we’re much more than that. We have new product lines such as Sims, IDC connectors and assemblies, Shrouded Headers and HDMI connectors that cross over other main brand connector companies. We have carved out our own identity as a “Top level Connector Company that is reliable and competitively priced” and our goal this year is to work with more engineers. Our on time delivery is over 94% and our quality is impeccable. I don’t see any reason why we can’t achieve our objectives and the new web site is just one of the components that will help get us there.”

For more information about Major League Electronics, browse the web site or call the factory at (812) 944-7244. You will be greeted the old fashioned way, no voice mail or having to leave messages. You know, it must be true, they really do believe in their motto: “We sell Service, the connectors are FREE!!!”
